Can You Get Blepharoplasty at Any Age?

Are you struggling with drooping eyelids, bags under your eyes, or excess skin in the eye area? A blepharoplasty might be the perfect treatment for you. It can have you looking more awake and more youthful within a few weeks.

But what exactly is blepharoplasty? And can you get it done at any age? Let’s take a look!

What is Blepharoplasty?

A blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that can be performed on the upper and/or lower eyelids. An upper blepharoplasty can include the removal of excess, drooping eyelid skin, repairing the muscle that opens the eyes, and removing excess fat. A lower blepharoplasty is used to remove skin and fat from the lower eyelid. It can reduce wrinkles, excess skin, and eye bags.

Blepharoplasty At Any Age

As long as you’re 18 or older, you can qualify for the blepharoplasty procedure. There is no upper age limit on the procedure so whether you’re 18 or 60, you can achieve your desired results with blepharoplasty.

During your 60s, the signs of aging around the eyes may become more pronounced. Sagging skin, puffiness, eye bags, and wrinkles can contribute to a tired or aged appearance. Fortunately, blepharoplasty can be an excellent option for restoring a more youthful and refreshed look.

Recovery After Blepharoplasty

After the blepharoplasty procedure, you can go home almost immediately. You will have some redness, bruising, and swelling. The bruising and swelling fade in 1-3 weeks depending on how much is done during the procedure

You may also experience some discomfort as you recover but your doctor will prescribe pain medication.

To prevent the eye from becoming dry, you’ll want to use artificial tear drops. Additionally, for 24-48 hours after the surgery, you should use ice packs on the treated area and sleep in a sitting position. This will help reduce the swelling.

You will also want to keep your eyes free of water for the first couple of days but can begin to wash them gently 3-7 days after the surgery. Your sutures are removed a week after treatment

You’ll also want to avoid any strenuous activity like heavy lifting or exercising for at least a week, but you should still walk to help with the healing process.
