Laser Skin Tightening

Tighten your skin and stimulate natural collagen growth

There are many lasers on the market and lasers have greatly evolved over the years. At Berman Plastic Surgery & Spa, Dr. Berman generally uses a Fractional Co2 laser, which reduces the furrows of deep wrinkles and eliminates the shallow ones for a younger appearance.

What is Laser Skin Tightening?

Laser skin tightening treatment uses a fractional Co2 laser to remove the outer damaged skin cells, allowing the dermis to produce new cells and new collagen, thereby giving your skin a smoother and younger appearance. It is not as damaging as its older brother the non-fractionated Co2.

Who is a Candidate for Laser Skin Tightening?

Candidates for laser skin tightening are those who experience skin laxity from a loss of collagen with age. Laser skin tightening is often used in the face, neck, and chest area. Dr. Berman has used this laser for treating scars, superficial pigmentation, and deeper wrinkles. Those who are not ready for a surgical procedure to address skin laxity, or do not require one yet, can benefit from non-surgical skin tightening with our laser system.

How is Laser Skin Tightening Performed?

Generally, only one session is required to obtain optimal results with careful care of your skin post-laser and with subcutaneous tissue protection. Occasionally someone will need one or more sessions, depending on his or her skin type.

When performed alone, without facelift or eyelid surgery, Dr. Berman places the patient on oral pain and sedation medication to be taken approximately one hour before the procedure. He then uses a topical pain medication 30 minutes before the procedure. Patients have reported that they feel only minimal discomfort with this regimen during the laser resurfacing.

Recovery and Results

Immediately following the laser resurfacing the patient returns home. For the following 3 to 5 days they embark on a course of post-laser skin products and cleansing. Downtime for patients after laser skin tightening has varied but has not been generally more than five days. Some patients undergo the laser resurfacing on a Friday morning and return to work on Monday morning. Most patients, in that time frame, still have some redness and swelling of the face, but it is a personal choice to return to the workplace.  Women are generally applying makeup at the 5-day post-laser period.
