Recontour your neck and jawline
Over the years, your body produces less collagen, resulting in jowls, sagging, prominent neckbands, and wrinkles. With a neck lift, you can tone the neck and jawline for a rejuvenated appearance.
A neck lift, or lower rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure to address skin laxity in the lower face, jawline, and neck area. By removing excess skin and tightening the underlying tissue, patients can achieve a younger appearance and a more defined jawline. The neck lift can be performed alone but is often combined with a facelift for optimal rejuvenation.
Candidates for a neck lift are those who experience signs of aging in the lower face and neck area such as:
- Skin laxity and jowls
- Stubborn fat deposits under the chin
- Loose skin in the neck
- Prominent muscle bands in the neck
To be a candidate for the neck lift, patients must be prepared for a surgical procedure with some recovery time. The neck lift can address areas of the lower face, but for mid-face sagging, patients might benefit more from a procedure like a facelift. Dr. Berman can meet with you during a consultation in Boca Raton to determine if you are a candidate for the procedure.
The neck lift is performed under general anesthesia or sedation to ensure patient comfort during the process. An incision will then be made within the hairline and behind the ears where scarring can be easily concealed. Once the appropriate incision is made, the tissue will be tightened, and excess skin will be trimmed away. The incision is then closed with sutures. If stubborn fat is present, liposuction techniques might also be involved for optimal recontouring. Each procedure will be customized depending on the patient’s unique concerns and their severity.
After a neck lift procedure, the incisions will be bandaged and a drain may be placed under the skin to remove excess fluids. Patients can expect one to two weeks of recovery following the neck lift procedure, depending on the techniques involved. This will include some time off work and certain restrictions when it comes to movement and activity. Some swelling, bruising, and discomfort can be expected for the first week. Discomfort can be managed with prescription pain medication from Dr. Berman.
Once swelling has diminished and patients have recovered successfully, they can enjoy a younger, rejuvenated neck and jawline. The results are softened muscle bands, tightened skin, and a more defined chin and jawline. The results of a neck lift are long-lasting and natural-looking, allowing the neck to age with the rest of the body.
