Smooth Out Fine Lines in the Upper Face

With age and repeated facial movements, the skin can begin to weaken and reveal fine lines and wrinkles. A neuromodulator like Botox or Dysport can temporarily reduce wrinkle-causing muscle contractions so you can express yourself without the lines!

Botox, Dysport, & Xeomin Overview

What are Botox and Dysport?

Botulinum toxin, whose trade names are better known as BOTOX® & DYSPORT®, is a purified toxin produced by bacteria that causes weakening and temporarily relaxes muscles. It has been used for over 30 years in the treatment of muscular problems in the eyes with great success.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted approval to administer BOTOX® & DYSPORT® for the temporary improvement of facial expression lines in adult men and women. Dr. Berman likes to have multiple options for treating facial expression lines. During your consultation, he can recommend which injectable is right for you.

How Is Botox and Dysport Treatment Performed?

Tiny amounts of BOTOX® or DYSPORT® are injected into each of 5 points between and above the eyebrow with a fine needle into the muscle that creates a wrinkle. Frown lines, the lines between your eyebrows, crow's feet, the lines around the eyes, and horizontal forehead lines are the areas most commonly injected. As the muscle weakens, it relaxes, causing the wrinkles in the skin to gradually soften and often disappear.

The effects of BOTOX® or DYSPORT® usually last three to five months, at which time another injection is needed. After several treatments, the effects of BOTOX® or DYSPORT® may begin to last longer, sometimes up to eight months. BOTOX® or DYSPORT® are the most popular cosmetic mini-treatments today.

This procedure can be done on a lunch break and only takes 10 to 20 minutes, and requires no recovery time. Overall, the vast majority of patients love this quick-fix therapy and return for a Boca Raton BOTOX® or DYSPORT® boost as soon as the wrinkles begin to reappear!

Recovery and Results

Ask Plastic Surgeon Dr. Jonathan Ross Berman about precautions you should take after your treatment, and call our office right away if you have difficulty swallowing, speaking, or breathing. If this happens, do not drive a car, operate heavy machinery, or do any other dangerous activities. Some people have reported slight headaches after treatments.

A small bruise at the site of injection is the most common side effect. When BOTOX® or DYSPORT® is injected into the forehead, it can result in brow-muscle weakening, causing a temporary lopsided appearance. This is extremely rare and usually goes away by itself. To maintain your improvements, you should discuss a regular treatment schedule.

As with any Botulinum toxin product, you should wait at least 90 days between treatments. The efficacy of BOTOX® or DYSPORT® has been established for up to 4 repeated treatments. The safety of BOTOX® and DYSPORT® has been studied in up to 12 repeated treatments. To schedule your Boca Raton BOTOX® appointment or consultation, call our office at (561) 726-6277.

Botox Frequently Asked Questions

How long does Botox last?

Results typically lasts three to four months, although longevity can vary depending on the treatment area and individual factors.

How does Botox work?

Botox works by temporarily relaxing targeted muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles. This softens the appearance of lines and helps prevent them from becoming deeper over time.

When will I see results from Botox?

Most patients begin noticing results within 3 to 5 days, with full results developing in about 10 to 14 days.

Is Botox safe?

Botox has been extensively studied and is FDA-approved for both cosmetic and medical uses. When administered by a qualified provider, it has an excellent safety profile.

What areas can Botox treat?

Botox is commonly used to treat forehead lines, frown lines between the eyebrows, and crow's feet. It can also be used for concerns such as excessive sweating and chronic migraines.

Will Botox make me look frozen?

When performed correctly, Botox should not make you look frozen or expressionless. The goal is to soften wrinkles while maintaining natural facial movement.

Is there any downtime after Botox?

There is little to no downtime after treatment. Most patients return to their normal activities immediately following their appointment.

What should I avoid after Botox?

For the first 24 hours, avoid strenuous exercise, rubbing the treated areas, and lying flat for several hours after treatment unless otherwise instructed by your provider.

Can Botox prevent wrinkles?

By limiting repetitive muscle movements that contribute to wrinkle formation, Botox can help slow the development of deeper lines over time.

Who is a good candidate for Botox?

Healthy adults who want to reduce the appearance of dynamic wrinkles or prevent future wrinkle formation are often excellent candidates for Botox treatment.

Dysport Frequently Asked Questions

Can Dysport be used on forehead?

Dysport is perfect for reducing the appearance of wrinkles on the forehead. This injectable treatment works by temporarily relaxing the muscles that cause horizontal forehead lines and other dynamic wrinkles. By targeting these specific muscles, Dysport can smooth and soften the skin's appearance, providing a more youthful and refreshed look.

Can I shower after Dysport?

Yes, you can shower after receiving a Dysport treatment, but it is recommended to wait at least four to six hours before doing so. This waiting period allows the product to settle properly in the targeted areas. When you do shower, it is important to use lukewarm water and avoid applying high pressure or excessive rubbing to the treated areas. Hot showers should be avoided for at least 24 hours to minimize any potential side effects and ensure optimal results.

Can I sleep on my side after Dysport?

After receiving Dysport injections, it is generally recommended to avoid lying down flat or sleeping on your side for at least four to six hours. This precaution helps prevent the product from migrating to unintended areas, which could diminish the desired effects or lead to unintended side effects. For optimal results, it's best to plan your injections at a time when you can remain upright for a few hours post-treatment.

Can I wear makeup after Dysport?

It's recommended to wait at least 4 to 6 hours post-injection before applying makeup to allow the product to settle properly and reduce the risk of irritation or infection. When applying makeup, use clean brushes or applicators and gentle, non-comedogenic products that won't clog pores or cause irritation. Additionally, avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area to prevent shifting the Dysport from its intended injection site.

Does Botox last longer than Dysport?

While the effects of both Botox and Dysport are similar, their duration may vary slightly from person to person. Generally, Botox and Dysport results typically last about 3 to 4 months.

How long after Dysport can I wash my face?

After receiving a Dysport injection, it is recommended to wait at least 4 to 6 hours before washing your face. This time frame helps ensure that the product settles into the muscle properly without being disturbed. When you do wash your face, use a gentle cleanser and lukewarm water, avoiding any vigorous rubbing or massaging of the treated area. Additionally, it's best to refrain from using any exfoliants or harsh skincare products immediately after the procedure to minimize any potential irritation.

How often should I get Dysport?

Generally, Dysport injections are administered every three to four months to maintain smoothness and relaxation in the treated areas. Regular treatments help maintain the desired aesthetic results, though some individuals might find they need injections more or less frequently based on their muscle activity and personal goals.

How quickly does Dysport work?

After receiving a Dysport injection, many people begin to see results as quickly as 2 to 3 days post-treatment. This fast-acting nature makes Dysport an attractive option for those seeking quick improvements.
