Ear Pinning (Otoplasty)

Say goodbye to your insecurities with more discreet and proportional ears
Otoplasty is an operation in which prominent and protruding ears are repositioned and reshaped so they are more attractive and sit in a more favorable position on the sides of the head.
Good candidates for this procedure have ears that have reached their full size, which is usually by age six, making children suitable candidates for this procedure. Ear surgery can be done to reduce the overall size or to set back the ears if they protrude excessively. Ideal candidates should be in good general health with realistic expectations for the outcome.
The procedure is an easy one both for the patient and the physician. The surgery takes Dr. Berman less than two hours and can be performed under local anesthesia.
Surgery is performed on young children as well as adults. Julie Golden, a newscaster for “Good Day New York,” underwent the procedure in my office. Her film crew came in and filmed the procedure. It aired on New York television. Incisions are made along the contours and folds of the ear, making the scars easy to hide and nearly undetectable as they heal.
After the procedure, a heavier dressing will be wrapped around the head to secure the ears. After some time has passed, Dr. Berman will remove the heavier bandages to inspect the ears and replace it with a lighter dressing. Once complete, you will most likely be released to go home with a friend or family member.
After approximately a week, you will return to see Dr. Berman for a checkup and to monitor your healing progress. Although recovery varies, most patients are able to return to light activity, work, or school after one week. Results usually last a lifetime and are typically only altered by incidents that alter the shape of your ears.
