Blunt Tip Cannulas for Fillers
Blunt Tip Cannulas for Fillers
In the past, sharp-tip needles were routinely used with injectable fillers, but Dr. Berman has moved towards using blunt-tip cannulas for lip augmentations, as they are typically less painful and have many other advantages over the traditional method. Blunt tips are usually smaller and more flexible than sharp tips, which means that they require fewer punctures and cover more area in a single treatment. They also tend to “push vital structures” out of the way rather than “impale them or puncture them”. For example, if near a nerve, the blunt cannula will tend to push aside blood vessels and nerves, whereas the sharp needle will lance the nerve causing pain and nerve injury or puncturing an artery or vein. Fewer punctures translates to less discomfort, as well as generally shorter procedure times, and the flexibility allows Dr. Berman to be more precise with his injections Additionally, most patients will state that the blunt tip cannulas decrease the patient’s level of discomfort during the procedure.
Shorter Recovery Time
Procedures done with blunt-tip cannulas also generally have a quicker recovery time than procedures done with sharp-tip cannulas. Because there are fewer injection sites and less piercing of nerves and blood vessels, there is less bleeding, swelling, and bruising. Anesthesia isn’t needed with blunt-tip cannulas because of how relatively painless they are compared to sharp tips. Dr. Berman always ensures that his patients are as comfortable as possible, which is why he prefers to use blunt-tip cannulas for his lip fillers. Also, the injectables like Restylane and Juvederm products are prepared with lidocaine, a numbing agent. Blunt cannulas together with the numbing agent lidocaine are a winning combination in Dr. Berman’s toolbox to give you the very best results with minimal pain and discomfort.
