To guarantee you have all the information you need on the procedure, let’s go through some of the most frequently asked questions we get at our Boca Raton, FL office.

What Areas Are the Best For Liposuction?

Any area where there is fat can be treated with liposuction, but there are some areas of the body that have more fat than others. It’s those areas that are typically the best for liposuction.

Men are usually looking to remove fat from the chest, abdomen, flanks, and chin area, while women typically want to remove fat from the thighs, flanks, arms, around the knees, and the chin area.

Who is a Good Candidate For Liposuction?

An ideal candidate for liposuction is someone who:

  • is near their ideal body weight
  • is in overall good health
  • has a healthy BMI number (around 30 or lower)
  • is looking to remove between 5-10 pounds of fat
  • can pinch about an inch of fat in the treatment area

To get a full picture of whether you are a good candidate for liposuction, schedule a consultation with Dr. Berman. He will ask about your medical history and perform a physical exam. From there, he can determine whether you are a good candidate for the procedure.

Will I Be Awake During Liposuction?

Typically, no, you aren’t awake during the liposuction procedure, but it can depend on where the liposuction is being done. During neck liposuction, because Dr. Berman can control the pain with lidocaine, there is no need to have you under general anesthesia. That said, it really depends on where the liposuction is being done and your personal preference.

What Method of Liposuction Do You Use?

At Berman Plastic Surgery & Spa, Dr. Berman will make tiny incisions in the treatment area. From there, he will insert a cannula (a blunt-tipped instrument) into the incisions. The cannula will then be carefully moved around to loosen and draw the fat out. Dr. Berman also uses power-assisted liposuction, which uses a cannula that vibrates to break up the fat. Suction will then be used to fully remove the fat, and finally, the incisions will be closed.

Is Liposuction A Weight Loss Surgery?

Typically, liposuction is not considered a weight loss surgery. While it can help you lose some weight, it’s more of a jump start. When patients see the results of the liposuction procedure, it often helps them feel motivated to continue their weight loss journey. They may be more prone to stick to a healthy diet or workout more to ensure they maintain, or even improve upon, their liposuction results.

Should I Get Liposuction or a Tummy Tuck?

Liposuction and a tummy tuck are two very different procedures. Liposuction is best for those looking to remove fat, while a tummy tuck is more appropriate for patients who are looking to remove excess skin and strengthen weakened abdominal muscles.

Additionally, while liposuction can be done on various places on the body, a tummy tuck can only be done on the abdomen. Which procedure is right for you depends on the results you’re looking for.
