Revision Rhinoplasty in Boca Raton: Who is the Surgeon for Me?

Choosing the right surgeon for your revision rhinoplasty

If a poorly performed rhinoplasty has left you dissatisfied with the cosmetic appearance of your nose or worse, struggling to breathe, a revision rhinoplasty may be the best way to correct the problem. Revision rhinoplasty, also known as secondary rhinoplasty, is often performed in cases when a primary rhinoplasty leaves a patient with unsatisfactory results.  This is a highly complex and challenging procedure, however, that should only be performed by a revision rhinoplasty specialist who has received extensive training and is experienced at performing this delicate correction. For patients located in Boca Raton, Miami, Ft Lauderdale, and Palm Beaches seeking revision rhinoplasty, Boca Raton surgeon Dr. Jonathan Berman is a natural choice. Lauded as the “go-to nose surgeon and nose specialist” by hundreds of satisfied patients, Dr. Berman has the highly specialized skill set necessary to turn a problematic nose job into the beautiful, aesthetically pleasing nasal shape that his patients were striving to achieve.

What makes revision rhinoplasty so difficult?

During a primary rhinoplasty, the cosmetic surgeon typically removes and shapes cartilage and tissue. The patient’s septum, which is the prime material that is needed to create a successful revision nasal surgery, may be partially or completely removed. There can be significant scarring and deformation of the patient’s cartilage and bone, and the skin that remains may now be too thick or too thin. Scar contracture is always present, twisting or deforming the remaining nasal cavity.

To correct the functional or cosmetic concerns that resulted from the primary rhinoplasty, the plastic surgeon may need to reposition the patient’s nasal bones. Grafts may be necessary to shore up thinned areas, and the surgeon may even need to perform an open-structure rhinoplasty to create the necessary structure and support. That’s why not every surgeon can perform revision rhinoplasty. Because primary surgery has already changed the nasal structure, secondary rhinoplasties require consummate skill and advanced knowledge of nasal surgical techniques.
