At our plastic surgery practice, we offer dermaplaning for a more radiant complexion. Dermaplaning uses a scalpel to gently remove dead skin cells, exfoliating and smoothing the skin. Dermaplaning can:
• Remove dead skin cells that cause a dull complexion
• Eliminate vellus hair, or peach fuzz
• Provide gentle exfoliation to the skin
How Dermaplaning works
Dermaplaning treatments last about 30 minutes, and are completely painless. Your treatment will begin with your skin being cleansed and dried. Then, the treatment area will be pulled taut, and a sterile blade will carefully scrape off dead skin cells and peach fuzz with short strokes.
Who is a good candidate for Dermaplaning?
Unlike microdermabrasion, which uses a diamond-encrusted vacuum suction wand which can be harsh on the skin, dermaplaning can be done on almost all skin types. It is best to avoid this procedure if you have acneic skin, or deep cystic acne. Women who are pregnant or nursing can benefit from this treatment without having to worry about any chemicals being used.
Recovery from Dermaplaning
After your dermaplaning treatment, you will have smooth, radiant skin. Dermaplaning requires no downtime and there are minimal to no side effects. After your treatment, your skin may be sensitive and have a pink hue. Broad-spectrum sunscreen of at least SPF 30 should be worn to reduce the chance of hyperpigmentation. Patients should wait at least 21 days before undergoing another dermaplaning treatment.
If you are interested in smoother, more radiant skin, schedule a consultation to discuss dermaplaning. During your consultation, our esthetician, Carrie, will help to determine whether you can benefit from this treatment. For more information, contact us at 561-594-0488.
