Study Shows Blepharoplasty Produces Effective Results

As we age, our eyelids can become saggy, making us look tired and aged. Deep grooves under the eyes and puffy bags can add to the aged appearance. According to A Dual Approach to Understanding Facial Perception Before and After Blepharoplasty, a journal published by Kristin L. Bater, BA, Masaru Ishii, MD, Ph.D., and Jason C. Nellis, MD, a study has shown that blepharoplasty patients are rated as appearing more attractive, healthy, and youthful than those who have not undergone the procedure. This is the first study of its kind, to date, and aims to “quantify the perceptions of facial aesthetic changes following blepharoplasty.”

The Study

During the study, 401 participants rated before and after photos of 10 women who underwent a blepharoplasty procedure. The analysis also included data from 161 participants who completed a questionnaire. The questionnaire asked observers to rate the age, attractiveness, health, and energy level of pre-op and post-op blepharoplasty patients.

Overall, the study showed that blepharoplasty patients appeared younger than those who hadn’t undergone the surgery. Post-op women also appeared more attractive, more energetic, and healthier.
