Breast Implants & Augmentation Boca Raton

What to expect after breast augmentation

As the day of your breast augmentation surgery approaches, it’s natural to feel excited and perhaps a bit nervous. Of course, you’re excited – you’ve been eagerly looking forward to getting your breast implants, and you can’t wait to start enjoying the boost of self-confidence that comes from knowing you have the perky, full, and shapely figure you’ve desired for so long. At the same time, you will be undergoing a surgical procedure, which can make anyone nervous. To help ease your concerns about breast implants & augmentation, Boca Raton plastic surgeon Dr. Jonathan Berman reveals the recovery process you will go through as you heal from breast augmentation surgery. Your individual recovery journey may vary slightly, depending on your implant type, incision placement, and other factors. Hopefully, knowing what to expect after breast augmentation will ease your worries and help you to go into your surgery in a relaxed, stress-free frame of mind.

How you will feel during recovery from breast augmentation surgery
You will wake from your breast augmentation surgery in the recovery room of our accredited outpatient surgical center, feeling tired, sore, and a bit groggy. You will spend a few hours resting in our recovery room before heading home, where you will spend the next two days or so resting. You can expect to have some bruising and swelling after your breast augmentation surgery; how much will depend on the particular breast implant type, placement of your incision, and your personal resilience. Many patients find the application of ice packs is sufficient to control discomfort and swelling, although Dr. Berman can prescribe pain medication if needed.

You can gradually resume many of your normal activities over the next two weeks; some of Dr. Berman’s patients actually recover swiftly enough that they are able to resume work within the first week after their breast augmentation. Most of your bruising and swelling should subside within two to four weeks, but you will still have to refrain from strenuous lifting and energetic exercise for up to six to eight weeks.

How your breasts will look and feel after breast augmentation surgery

Don’t get concerned if your breasts appear too high, uneven, or oddly placed immediately after your breast augmentation surgery. You may also feel some tingling or itching in your breasts and nipples, as well as some occasional sharp “zinging” sensations in your breast tissue. All of this is perfectly normal and expected, as it will take some time for your tissues and skin to stretch and accommodate your breast implants. Your breasts will gradually settle into their new position over the next several months. Six months after your breast augmentation surgery, you will have resumed all your regular activities as you enjoy life with the full, shapely breasts you’ve always wanted.
