Aging is not something any of us can outrun. No matter our genes, eventually, all of us see some signs of facial aging. But you don’t have to simply accept those folds, volume loss, and lines and wrinkles. With cosmetic procedures like a deep plane facelift, you can achieve a more youthful appearance without looking overdone or artificial.
Deep Plane Facelift at a Glance
- A deep plane facelift is an advanced facial rejuvenation technique that can address jowls, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, sagging skin, and more.
- The procedure can take anywhere from 2-4 hours.
- General anesthesia is administered prior to the procedure for your comfort.
- A deep plane facelift can take up to 15 years off your appearance.
What is a Deep Plane Facelift?
A deep plane facelift is an advanced surgical technique that lifts the deeper facial layers, releases the ligaments under the skin to reposition the tissues and address jowls, and provide natural and long-lasting results. Instead of a pulled or artificial appearance like you may receive with a traditional facelift, with a deep plan facelift, you can achieve dramatic results that look completely natural.
Because of the technique used in a deep plane facelift, you want a board-certified plastic surgeon who has a high level of skill to provide beautiful results. That’s where Dr. Berman comes in. He is a double-board-certified plastic surgeon who has decades of experience helping his patients look and feel their best.
What are the Benefits of a Deep Plane Facelift?
There are countless benefits that come with a deep plane facelift at Berman Plastic Surgery and Med Spa. One of the greatest benefits of the procedure is that it will make you look over a decade younger. Most of our patients look 12-15 years younger. On top of that, a deep plane facelift can address a wide range of concerns, including deep folds and wrinkles, sagging skin, and volume loss. The results of a deep plane facelift can also last longer than a traditional facelift, allowing you to enjoy these improvements for years to come.
Traditional Facelift vs Deep Plane Facelift
There are several differences between a traditional facelift and a deep plane facelift. A traditional facelift separates the SMAS (superficial muscular aponeurotic system) from the skin and tightens them separately. A deep plane facelift, on the other hand, tightens and repositions the SMAS and skin together.
The deep plane facelift also targets deeper tissues than a traditional procedure. This often means it comes with a longer surgical time, but because it provides dramatic results, many patients are fine with a longer surgery.
This more advanced procedure can also address more complex and severe signs of aging than a traditional facelift.
The Deep Plane Lift Procedure
At Berman Plastic Surgery and Med Spa, we’ll start your deep plane facelift by administering general anesthesia to ensure your comfort. From there, Dr. Berman will make an incision in the face and neck. It’s typically within the hairline and just in front of the ear. From there, the face and neck skin and the SMAS will be separated from the deeper tissues. Multiple stitches will then be placed to reposition and anchor the SMAS in different areas of the face and neck.
Where the stitches are placed and where the tissues and skin will be repositioned will depend on your unique needs and the results you’re looking for. The skin will then be redraped, ensuring the tight look of older facelift methods is avoided.
At the end of your surgery, Dr. Berman will close your incisions with sutures, and you’ll be ready to start your recovery process.
Deep Plane Facelift Recovery & Results
After your deep plane facelift, you will have some swelling, bruising, and discomfort. While these side effects are temporary, they typically stick around for a few weeks. They will fade as your recovery progresses. During this time, you will want to keep your head elevated, take any pain medication Dr. Berman prescribes, and rest as much as possible. We will also provide you with detailed guidelines to follow to ensure you heal properly. After the first couple of weeks, you will likely be able to return to work and some light activities.
After 2-4 weeks, you will start noticing visible improvements to your face. That said, it can take a few months before your most significant results are visible and you start to look more like yourself.
Who is a Candidate for a Deep Plane Facelift Procedure?
Ideal candidates for a deep plane facelift are patients who are in generally good health, who have realistic expectations, and who are struggling with significant signs of aging. We also recommend that you be a nonsmoker, not pregnant or breastfeeding, and have no medical conditions that may affect the surgical or recovery process. Most patients who have this procedure are in the 40-70 age range.
