BOTOX ® Injections
BOTOX ®, and DYSPORT®, are refined toxins called botulinum produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It works by blocking nerve signals to muscles, paralyzing them temporarily so they cannot contract, which then causes wrinkles to relax and dissipate. It is most commonly used on frown lines, crow’s feet, and horizontal lines on the forehead.
Preparing for BOTOX ® Injections
In preparing for BOTOX ® injections, you may be asked to:
- Go over your medical history and any prescription medication you are taking with your doctor
- Stop taking any medications that can thin the blood, such as aspirin or ibuprofen, as they can increase bruising
- Avoid drinking alcohol 24 hours before treatment
- Stop smoking as it may increase the likelihood of bruising
BOTOX ® injections usually takes a few minutes and can safely be performed in Dr.Berman’s office. Patients require no recovery time, though a small bruise at the injection site and/or a slight headache can occur but less than one percent of the time.
