What to Expect from Your Liposuction Recovery

Liposuction: Benefits, Recovery Duration, and Expectations

Liposuction is an outpatient cosmetic surgery procedure performed in our on-site, accredited surgical suite designed to help recontour your body’s shape by removing fat. There are many different reasons you may be googling “liposuction Boca Raton”. Perhaps you’ve lost weight and are struggling to get rid of that last stubborn bit of belly fat, maybe you’re self-conscious about those love handles, you might have a muffin top you can’t seem to shake, or it might be the double-chin you’ve been trying to conceal all your life. If any of this strikes a chord, liposuction is your procedure of choice!  It’s natural to have a lot of questions before undergoing any surgery, which is why we’re here to give you a brief rundown of how this short procedure can change your life and what exactly liposuction recovery entails.

Liposuction is best for patients that are within 30% of their ideal weight, who are non-smokers, and those who have realistic expectations of what can be achieved.  If you have a lot of loose skin and/or stretch marks due to pregnancy or rapid weight loss on your abdomen, then Dr. Berman recommends his tummy tuck procedure with liposuction to remove the excess skin and tighten the muscles in the abdomen.

Benefits of Liposuction

The vast majority of patients who undergo liposuction are extremely satisfied with their results and enjoy their new improved look and boost in self-esteem. Here are just a few of the things liposuction can do for you:

  • Safely remove fat
  • Improve your health
  • Positively change the way others view and treat you
  • Reduce or improve the appearance of cellulite
  • Give you increased confidence in your self-image
  • Impart lasting effects (given you maintain proper diet and exercise)

The First Few Weeks After

As liposuction is an outpatient procedure, you can usually leave Dr. Berman’s office shortly after the conclusion of the surgery, when you feel ready. If your procedure requires general anesthesia or heavy sedation you will need someone to drive you home. You probably will be going home in a compression garment over the areas that were operated on, which will be worn for the first 2 or 3 weeks.  Minor bruising in the actual incision area may occur but should subside in a few days, though swelling in the general area may persist for several weeks. Any slight discomfort you may experience after the first 72 hours can usually be handled with over-the-counter painkillers. Most patients can return to their normal routine after the first week but since everyone is different, Dr. Berman will inform you in your follow-up visits when it is safe to return to your regular, day-to-day activities. So it is vital you keep your post-op appointments to ensure the best possible results and your safety.

You can examine some of Dr. Berman’s spectacular results in his before and after gallery, or watch video testimonials from his happy patients.
